Doug Emhoff’s Ex-Wife’s Role in ‘Magical’ Film That Shares Love Story With Kamala Harris

Kerstin Emhoff, the ex-wife of Doug Emhoff, was the producer behind the biographical short film that played before the second gentleman’s speech at the DNC.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) Kerstin Emhoff said the film was called “This is my Dad, Doug,” and described it as being made by the Emhoffs’ son Cole Emhoff and produced by her and Ventureland, the production company of which she is CEO.

The film is narrated by Cole Emhoff, who introduced his father on stage Tuesday night, and it pays tribute to Doug Emhoff and Vice President Kamala Harris, telling their story from first meeting to the present day. In the film, Cole speaks about how his parents split and remained friends afterwards. Then he explains his dad, “Met Kamala, the blind date that would dramatically change all of our lives forever.”

“It was my senior year of high school, El and I would laugh watching them fall in love like teenagers,” Cole narrates in the film.

“El” refers to Ella Emhoff, his sister, whose appearance at the DNC on Monday went viral.

He then speaks about Harris’ political career, explaining that “When Kamala became senator, we were all excited to step up. Especially my dad.” He says in the video, “I was so proud to watch him do it. To stand by her side. An example of true partnership.”

At the close of the video, Cole states “We might not look like other families in the White House, but we are ready to represent all families in America.”

After being introduced by his son, a visibly emotional Doug Emhoff joked, “I guess he didn’t want me to give this speech.” Sharing the video in X later he said, “What a gift from Cole. I’ll never forget this.”

Social media users were quick to share praise for the film. One user responded on X, “This was so delightful and real.”

Another wrote, “Just magical. Thank you.” One user described it as the “Best convention video I’ve seen in a long time.”

Newsweek has reached out to Kerstin Emhoff via Ventureland for comment.

Kerstin Emhoff has been a vocal supporter of Harris since she became the Democratic nominee.

In a statement previously shared with CNN, Kerstin Emhoff described Harris as, “Loving, nurturing, fiercely protective, and always present. I love our blended family and am grateful to have her in it.” This came after controversial comments made by JD Vance where he dubbed Harris and other political figures, “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives.”
