The chief advisor of the interim government of Bangladesh. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke to Muhammad Yunus on telephone today. This information was informed in a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan sent to the media.

During the conversation, Professor Dr. Muhammad congratulated Yunus and appreciated his contribution to socio-economic development of Bangladesh. He also expressed his condolences to the Bangladeshi people in the devastation caused by the recent floods in Bangladesh. Chief Adviser Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus also thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif over telephone.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan stressed the importance of re-energizing bilateral relations by increasing cooperation in various fields. Referring to the historical, religious and cultural ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh, the Prime Minister expressed his keen interest in strengthening trade relations, cultural exchanges and people-to-people contacts.

Both the leaders agreed that there is a need for the leaders of the two countries to work closely for the progress and prosperity of the people of Bangladesh and Pakistan. They also agreed that greater regional cooperation alliances can play an important role in improving the livelihoods of the people of South Asia.
