DSE Chairman Hasan Babu resigns

Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Chairman Prof. Dr. Hafiz Md. Hasan Babu has resigned. On Sunday (August 18), he emailed Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Acting Chairman Md. Mohsin Chowdhury also submitted his resignation letter.

Monday (August 19) Deputy General Manager of DSE. Shafiqur Rahman and BSEC executive director Mohammad Rezaul Karim confirmed RisingBD.

He was elected as Chairman in the 1054th Board of Directors meeting of DSE DSE on 5 March 2023.

Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Hasan Babu is working as Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Technology and Professor of Computer Science and Engineering Department of Dhaka University. In addition, he is currently serving as an elected Senate member of Dhaka University and a part-time member of the Bangladesh Accreditation Council appointed by the President.

Professor Dr. Hasan Babu is currently the president of Bangladesh Chapter of International Internet Society Besides, he was working as a professor and founding chairman of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering Department of Dhaka University. He served as a Director on the Board of Directors of Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited

Professor Shibli Rubaiyat-ul-Islam resigned from the post of chairman of BSEC last Sunday (August 11) due to the recent political change. A day later, two commissioners of the organization resigned on Monday (August 12). Sheikh Shamsuddin Ahmed and Dr. Rumana Islam. After the resignation of the chairman and two commissioners, the capital market was running in a leadershipless state.

The Advisory Council of the Interim Government appointed Mashroor Riaz as the Chairman of BSEC last Tuesday (August 13) to take control of the country's capital market. However, BSEC's Officers' Welfare Association questioned Masroor Riaz's eligibility and other issues. Later realizing the mistake, Masroor Riaz was welcomed by the association to join BSEC. But Masroor Riaz made a statement last Saturday (August 17) expressing his ineligibility to join BSEC. In view of this, on Sunday (August 18) considering the overall aspect, Khandkar Rashed Maqsood has been appointed by the Advisory Council.
