DU students protest against quota restoration

The students of Dhaka University have rejected the High Court's ruling declaring the circular invalidating the 30 percent freedom fighter quota in the first and second class government jobs.

On Wednesday (June 5), ordinary students protested at the foot of the Raju sculpture of Dhaka University.

Hundreds of students were seen carrying anti-quota placards and chanting slogans during the protest march. The students took out a protest procession and went around the university premises.

Nahidul Islam, a student of the Department of Sociology, said at the protest rally, “We consider this judgment of the High Court illegal.” Strongly condemn it. If this judgment of the High Court is upheld, then we will go on a long-term agitation. We said in 18 that merit should be given importance in government jobs. A 56 percent quota in government jobs cannot be the characteristic of any country. We do not know on what basis the High Court gave this judgment by giving a thumbs up to the general students' quota movement. In this case, if the government wants to come to a decision, then it must discuss with the students.

He also said that the freedom fighters are the sun children of the nation. The state is giving them whatever status they need and will continue to do so in the future. When this state of unemployment in the country, the government is not able to provide jobs to the students of the country, there is a 30 percent freedom fighter quota in government jobs and the overall quota is 56 percent. We rejected this judgment of the High Court. The judgment given in 18 must be stuck to.

At this time, the protestors announced another protest program at the foot of the Raju sculpture of the university at 5 pm on Thursday.

During this time, the students raised slogans like 'Job Quota, Mani Na Manab Na', 'There is no place for quotas in Liberation War/Bangla of Independence', 'High Court Verdict, Mani Na Manab Na', 'Quota System, Quota System, Mani Na Manbo' etc. stay

Students said that 56 percent quota in government jobs cannot be the normal education system of any country. Today, the High Court gave a thumbs up to the students' demand and ruled in favor of restoring the quota. If any such decision is to be taken, it must be decided sitting with the students. We respect freedom fighters. But that does not mean that their children and even grandchildren will join quota jobs with less effort. We declared this judgment of the High Court invalid.

They said, we call upon all university students to come down the streets and join this quota movement. This is a fight for our rights. Talents of the country will get jobs by hard work, not by quota. Regardless of your party affiliation, unite and raise your voice against quotas in government jobs to build an exploitation-free Bangladesh.
