Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hasan Papon has resigned. At the same time, former cricketer and selector Farooq Ahmed was elected as the new president.

A director of BCB who was in the board meeting at the secretariat on Thursday (August 21) confirmed this information to RisingBD. The board meeting started at 11 am.

Papon joined BCB as interim president in 2012. He was elected in October 2013. After that, he was elected BCB president two more times. But could not complete the term last time. He was supposed to hold the presidency until October 2025. But after the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government, he had to resign.

Meanwhile, former cricketer Farooq Ahmed served as the chief selector of BCB for two terms before. Served in the first term from 2003 to 2007, in the second term from 2013 to 2016. His tenure in the second term was not pleasant. He had to resign and leave.

Farooq Ahmed's path to becoming president was complicated. It is clearly written in the constitution of BCB that the president will be elected from among the directors. But Farooq Ahmed was not the director of BCB. He was nominated by the National Sports Council and brought to the BCB as a director. He was then elected by the BCB directors' vote.

In this case, Jalal Yunus and Sajjadul Alam Bobi, who came to BCB as directors through the National Sports Council, have been excluded. Among them, Jalal Yunus voluntarily resigned but Bobby was released
