21 hours after miscreants set fire to the six-storey building of Gazi Tire factory, it has not been extinguished. The building is still on fire and on the other hand looting was also seen in different parts of the factory
The factory was set on fire at around 9 pm on Sunday. Earlier, the looting started in the afternoon. Looting was seen outside the main premises of the factory on Monday afternoon as well.
Director of Fire Service and Civil Defense (Dhaka) Lieutenant Colonel Rezaul Karim said, a six-storey building of the factory is still on fire. Efforts are underway to put out the fire using all modern equipment. There is no danger of the fire spreading further. The fire is taking time to be extinguished due to various flammable materials in the tire manufacturer's factory. After the fire is completely extinguished, the missing persons will be searched inside the factory.
Miscreants were seen looting various establishments around the factory including Gazi tires on Monday afternoon as well. Due to the presence of police, army and students in front of the factory set up on about 45 acres of land, looting is not taking place in the main part of the factory. However, looting is going on in various unprotected areas around this vast factory. They are looting various parts, steel, plastic and copper from the factory.
Some of the looters said that since August 5, the people of the area have been looting. They also took part in looting in the presence of people. However, none of them gave their names.
It was also seen collecting the fuel oil released from the factory in the canal next to the Dhaka-Sylhet highway
A young man said, 'Gazi is eating a lot in Amagore.' This is me.'
In the morning, the assistant general manager of the factory, Saiful Islam, said that several hundred people entered the factory on Sunday afternoon. There was no way to stop them. During the looting, the looters set fire to the ground floor of the factory's six-storey building around 9 pm. He alleged that when the looting started in the afternoon, the matter was reported to several law enforcement agencies, including the police, but no one came forward. However, the complaint has been denied by the police.
Narayanganj Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (C-Circle) Habibur Rahman told reporters that the police did not neglect anything. We are doing our utmost to ensure factory safety.

He said that those who entered the factory had entered to loot the factory. They even took the toilet commode. I started working after receiving the news.
He said, many of our units are working. We have been doing continuous duty since night, only shifting has changed. It is a criminal offence. We have done as much as we can.
Regarding looting, Rupganj Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Ahsan Mahmud Russell said that police, industrial police, army and volunteers are working to prevent looting of factories. I have requested everyone to take a firmer stand.
