Exim Bank's board has been disbanded and a new board has been formed

To restore order in the banking sector in the country, Bangladesh Bank has dissolved and restructured the board of directors of the private Exim Bank. The central bank has formed a new five-member board on Thursday.

There are five members in the new board of directors – entrepreneur director Md. Nazrul Islam Swapan, Md. Nurul Amin and Anjan Kumar Saha. Former executive director of Bangladesh Bank SM Rezaul Karim and chartered accountant Khandaker Mamun have been appointed independent directors.

Before this, the long-time chairman. Nazrul Islam Majumder and his wife Nachreen Islam have been removed. During the previous government, he held the position of Chairman of BAB for a long time.

Those concerned said that Nazrul Islam Majumdar singled out some of the main entrepreneurs of the bank and criticized them. In the last few years, he has taken out a huge loan from this bank anonymously. Nazrul Islam Majumdar smuggled a large part of it.

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has already frozen the accounts of Nazrul Islam and his wife. Besides, he has started searching where he has smuggled money.

Nazrul Islam Majumdar of NASA Group held the post of Chairman of Bangladesh Association of Banks during the Awami League government. If the bank needed any law change or any other unethical benefit, he would appear in the former prime minister's office with the CSR fund. She was not seen publicly after Sheikh Hasina left the post of Prime Minister on August 5 and went to India.

Bangladesh Bank has already dissolved and restructured the board of 6 banks. Among them Islami Bank Bangladesh, Social Islami, Union, Global Islami and National Bank S Alam have been deregulated. Apart from this, S Alam's cousin former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed's family has been exempted from UCB.
