Known as a serial killer in Maheshkhali upazila of Cox's Bazar district. RAB arrested Lokman alias Azrail. Abu Salam Chowdhury, Senior Assistant Director (Law and Media) of RAB-15 informed about the arrest of Azrail on Thursday (March 28) afternoon.
Earlier, he was arrested early Wednesday (March 27) from a hideout on Sonadia Island in the Bay of Bengal.
Abu Salam Chowdhury said that Lokman Maheshkhali's bandit team has been serving as second in command of Zia Army for a long time. Azrael is a serial killer. Apart from killing his rivals, he works as a hired assassin. He has at least 10 cases against him including 4 murders.
He said that in 2007, Lokman and members of his forces made a planned attack and hacked and shot dead Kalamarchhara Union Parishad Chairman Osman Gani. In addition, in 2011, Hafez Abdul Gafur was also hacked to death on suspicion of helping the government forces in suppressing piracy.
He also said that to expand their dominance, Lokman and his army members hacked to death Maheshkhali's fish merchant Mohammad Osman Gani. Besides, Azrail is involved in the murder of fisherman Belal Hossain.
