Fire in Noakhali's Chaumuhni Mosque Market, half a hundred shops damaged


Around half a hundred shops were burnt to ashes in the mosque market on Badamtala road in Noakhali's largest commercial center Choumuhni. 7 units of fire service worked to control the fire.

The fire started around 7:30 pm on Sunday (April 21).

Cloth, gold, cosmetics, cottage industry and yarn shops of the market were gutted in the fire. However, the source of the fire and how many shops were burnt is not known.

Local businessmen said that they first saw smoke from inside the mosque market around 7:30 in the evening. In a moment, flames spread all around. At one point, the traders tried to remove the goods and control the fire with water from the surrounding area. After reporting to Chaumuhani Fire Service, first one unit came to the spot, then seeing the severity of the fire, 7 units from Daganbhuanya Fire Station of Maijdi, Sonaimuri, Senbagh and Feni districts worked to control the fire. Begumganj police and local businessmen also worked to control the fire. The fire was brought under control after about 3 hours of effort.

Assistant Director of Noakhali District Fire Service. Farid Ahmed confirmed the truth of the incident. He said, 7 units of 5 fire stations worked to control the fire. After about 3 hours of efforts, the fire was brought under control. However, it is still not possible to confirm what shops and how many shops were burnt and how the fire started.
