Five point demands from Long March towards Dambur Dam

Inkilab Manch

Several districts in the eastern part of the country were hit by severe floods recently due to the floods coming down from Tripura. At least 71 people lost their lives. Millions of people have been affected. Alleging that India's damming of transboundary rivers is a violation of international law, 5-point demands have been made from the long march of Inquilab Manch towards Dambur Dam.

It has been alleged that such a situation has occurred in Bangladesh due to the opening of the Dambur Hydropower Project. Although the Indian government has denied the allegation, the floods in Bangladesh were not caused by the opening of the dam at the Dambur hydroelectric project.

On Friday (September 6), Inquilab Manch started a long march towards Dambur Dam to protest India's water terrorism. The participants of the long march started from Shahbagh in the capital to Jatrabari, Chandina in Comilla.

Demanding a case against India in the international court for depriving Bangladesh of its fair share of water for ages, they say that due to the dam, Bangladesh is suffering from floods in the monsoon season and drought in the crop season.

With the help of the Awami League government, India has committed unlimited oppression on the people of Bangladesh through water terrorism for years and the spokesperson of Inkilab Manch, Sharif Osman Hadi, made a 5-point demand including demolishing the dam.

The demands of Inkilab Manch are:

1. Taking initiatives to implement the Teesta Master Plan as soon as possible.

2. Accelerated ratification of the UN Watercourses Convention 1997. According to this convention, as a downstream country, Bangladesh has been damaged and to claim compensation from the upstream country.

3. Taking initiatives to prepare a new list of transboundary rivers.

4. 54 transboundary river basin-based water allocation to include all approaches.

5. Incorporating international forums to demand removal of all illegal dams in India.
