Food and clean water shortage in flood affected areas


Most of the flood-affected areas have witnessed humanitarian disasters. Many are living in water. People are in trouble due to shortage of food and clean water. It is known that many people in remote and remote areas are not getting relief even though the distribution of dry food, water and medicine is continuing at the government and private level.

The victims complain that much less relief is being provided than required. Even in many areas no relief has reached for four or five days. No one has taken public-private help even in these days. Many people are spending days of starvation. All in all, the public life of the affected area has been disrupted.

Feni: Flood water has started receding in Feni. The roads in the city including SSK Road, Trunk Road, which were under three to four feet of water, the amount of water has also reduced by two to one feet. However, many complain that the relief aid is not going to all parts of the district.

Kabir Hossain has come to office from Chagalnaya upazila to the district town. He said that several families including his family are still completely waterlogged. They are not getting any relief assistance. He came to the city in a boat with great difficulty. Kabir Hossain alleged that several volunteers were requested to take relief but none went.

Laxmipur: The flood situation in Lakshmipur district has worsened. The water pressure is increasing again since yesterday morning. Earlier last Saturday, Noakhali water pressure started coming to Lakshmipur. Added to this is heavy rain at night. As a result water has increased in several areas of the district. Public life is getting disrupted. The sufferings of Banvasi people are increasing.

Comilla and Daudkandi: According to the information of Comilla district administration, the number of people trapped in water in 14 out of 17 upazilas of the district is more than 8 lakh 24 thousand. In Burichong Upazila of the district, lakhs of people are still in water-locked state. In Burburia area of ​​the upazila, Gomti's defense dam broke and a large area was flooded.

Many affected people have not yet been able to go to shelters. Many of them are located on the roof of the house. Many others remained at home with water up to their throats. They want to go to a safe shelter even though they are under the illusion of home. However, there is an acute shortage of boats and food.

A resident of Sadar said that Burichong Sadar is under water. At least 200 families are yet to receive any relief. They have no food. The body of an unidentified person has been recovered from Burichong Upazila. Yesterday morning, the body was found floating in the flood water in Aganagar village of the upazila. Later the body was recovered from there. However, the identity of the body is not known.

Meanwhile, two sisters died after drowning in flood water in Titas Upazila. This incident happened in Bagairampur village yesterday. The deceased are Ayesha Akhter (10) daughter of expatriate Monir Hossain (10) and Chamia Akhtar (9) daughter of Moktar Hossain. The two were students of Nayakandi Ishaqiya Sahiniya Darul Qur'an Madrasa.

Brahmanbaria: The flood situation has improved in Kasba and Akhaura upazilas. Yesterday water decreased in both upazilas. Although there is water in some roads in Kasba, the water has moved away from the houses in most places. Although there is no flood water in Akhaura, some houses are flooded. Meanwhile, passenger transit has started from yesterday afternoon through Akhaura land port.

Moulvibazar: After visiting the flooded area yesterday, the water in the Manu river has reduced a lot. However, water is entering through the erosion of Kadhamata Manu river. Although the water has receded from the houses and roads of the flooded villages, the water has not yet receded from the cropland. There is a shortage of food and clean water for the waterlogged people in the lower areas.

Mirsarai (Chittagong): More than two lakh people are trapped in water in Mirsrai. Incessant rains and landslides caused the Feni river to rise, flooding 165 villages here since last Wednesday. However, water has decreased in some areas since yesterday morning.

It is known that on the one hand millions of helpless people are trapped in the flood. On the other hand, two gates of Muhuri, the country's largest irrigation project located downstream of Feni river, were broken by water. Two more gates are useless. Due to this, the water of the Bay of Bengal enters the interior through the Feni river during the tide. Also during low tide water drainage is disrupted due to two gates being useless.

Due to rising water on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, all traffic was stopped. Traffic on the Dhaka-bound lane started to return to normal from Sunday morning.

Noakhali: Even though the flood water started receding, the suffering of the people did not ease as the rain continued. Meanwhile, a child died after drowning in Senbag upazila. Meanwhile, a child named Abdur Rahman (2) drowned in flood water in front of his house in Bircourt area of ​​Senbagh Upazila.

Habiganj: The water at Balla point of Khoai river is above the limit, but the water at Shaistaganj and Machulia points is now far below the limit. Kushiara and Kalni Kushiara river water level has receded but is still above danger level. Along with river water, the condition of six upazilas of the flood-affected district has improved. Even though shelters have been opened by the government, most of the people are returning home. 18 thousand 240 families of five upazilas of the district are water-tight.

11 districts of the country were more or less inundated due to continuous rains and flash floods coming down from India. According to the government, 10 lakh 47 thousand 29 families are water-tight. 52 lakh 9 thousand 798 people have been affected. 20 people died.
