Formation of a commission to investigate the disappearance of 16 years

A commission has been formed to investigate the disappearances of RAB, police and other law and order forces in the country for the last 16 years. On Tuesday, a notification was issued by the cabinet department to form this investigation committee of 5 members headed by Justice Moinul Islam Chowdhury.

Other members of the commission are Justice Farid Ahmed Shibli, human rights activist Noor Khan, BRAC University teacher Nabila Idris and human rights activist Sajjad Hossain.

According to the 'Commission of Inquiry Act, 1956', the commission will complete the investigation and submit the investigation report to the government within the next 45 working days.

According to the notification, law enforcement agencies namely Bangladesh Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Special Branch, Intelligence Branch, Ansar Battalion, National Intelligence Agency (NSI), Defense Forces, Defense Intelligence The government has formed this commission of inquiry to trace the persons who have been forcibly disappeared through any member of the law enforcement and enforcement agencies of the country including Directorate General of Investigation (DGFI), Coast Guard.

According to the scope of the commission, between January 1, 2010 and August 5, law enforcement agencies namely Bangladesh Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Special Branch, Intelligence Branch, Ansar Search, identify and determine the circumstances under which the missing persons have been forcibly disappeared by any member of the country's law enforcement and enforcement agencies including the Battalion, National Intelligence Agency (NSI), Defense Forces, Directorate General of Defense Intelligence (DGFI), Coast Guard.

It is said to submit the details of cases of enforced disappearance to the concerned authorities and make recommendations in this regard, to inform the next of kin of the persons who have been forcibly disappeared if they are found, to collect the information of the investigation conducted by any other agency or institution about the cases of enforced disappearance. .

The notification also stated that the Cabinet Division will provide secretarial support to the Commission and meet the necessary expenses of the Commission and may assign any person engaged in the work of the Republic for the purpose of assisting the Commission.

It is informed that the president of the commission will be a judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and the member of the commission will get the status of a judge of the High Court Division and other benefits.
