Former Justice Manik detained while fleeing to India

Former judge AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik was arrested by BGB while fleeing to India.

He was arrested at 11:20 pm on Friday (August 23) from Jokiganj border in Sylhet.

BGB Public Relations Officer Shariful Islam confirmed the matter.

He said that the former judge AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik was arrested some time ago from Zakiganj border in Sylhet. He was caught by the BGB while trying to escape to India.

Earlier on Thursday (August 22), a case was filed against former Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) President Hasanul Haque Inu and Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon for making adverse comments about the Zia family. A lawyer named Ziaur Haque appealed the case in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saiful Islam.

According to the complaint in the case, Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik on October 3, 2022 called Ziaur Rahman a Razakar and a war criminal on Channel I's talk show 'Metrosem to the Point'. In a seminar on February 15 last year, he said, Ziaur Rahman was not a freedom fighter. He was an intruder in the liberation war.

On July 19, 2013, Hasanul Haque Inu and Rashed Khan Menon made adverse comments about Ziaur Rahman on different occasions. Apart from this, it is mentioned in the affidavit that the accused made adverse comments about the Zia family at various times.
