Colonel (retd.) former member of Parliament of Gaibandha-1 (Sunderganj) Constituency and leader of Jatiya Party (Japa) in the case of acquisition of wealth outside known income. The court sentenced Abdul Quader Khan to four years in prison. In addition to imprisonment, he has been fined 61 lakh 92 thousand 791 rupees, which will be confiscated in favor of the state.
Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of Dhaka Special Judge Court-9 gave the verdict on Thursday (April 4). However, he was acquitted of the charge of concealment of assets as the charge was not proved.
Quader Khan was produced before the court from jail before the verdict. After the verdict, he was taken back to prison with a warrant. Saiful Islam Mithu, bench assistant of the concerned court, gave this information.
Quader Khan was arrested in February 2017 for his involvement in the murder of Awami League Member of Parliament Manjurul Islam (Liton) of Gaibandha-1 Constituency. The retired army officer was arrested by the police after keeping him under house arrest for six days at his house in Bogra city.
A few days later, the ACC started investigating Quader Khan's illegal assets. Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Assistant Director Waheed Manzoor Sohag filed a case against Quader Khan at Ramna police station on May 26, 2019 for concealing information in the asset declaration and acquiring assets beyond known income.
In the statement of the case, it is said that in the assets statement submitted to the ACC, Abdul Quader Khan hid the information of assets of Tk 24 lakh 42 thousand 770. The investigating officer of the case, ACC Assistant Director Noor Alam filed a charge sheet against him in the court on January 10 last year.
