The former vice-chancellor of Dhaka University has been appointed as the chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC). Syed Muhammad Abdul Fayez (Dr. S. M. A. Fayez). He has been appointed to this position for the next four years.
He was appointed in a notification issued by the Ministry of Education on Thursday (September 5). It is signed by the Deputy Secretary Dr. with the approval of the appropriate authorities. Md. Farhad Hossain.
According to the notification, according to the Bangladesh University Grant Commission Act, 1973, the former professor of the Department of Soil, Water and Environment of Dhaka University. SMA Faiz was appointed as the Chairman of UGC.
He has been appointed under three conditions. They are – his term as chairman will be four years. He will get salary and fringe benefits as per prevailing rules. His appointment will be effective from the date of joining the post of Chairman.
It is known that the retired professor of the soil, water and environment department of the university was temporarily appointed as the 26th vice-chancellor of Dhaka University in 2002 during the coalition government led by BNP. The then chancellor and president of the university. Yaz Uddin Ahmed appointed him. He served for 6 years after being appointed as Vice-Chancellor for a temporary period.
Before this Dr. Faiz also served as the sixth chairman of the Public Service Commission (PSC). He served in this position for five years from March 7, 1993 to March 5, 1998.
