Fox News Hosts Praise Michelle Obama’s ‘Amazing’ DNC Speech

A Fox News panel praised former first lady Michelle Obama’s appearance as the “speech of the night” at day two of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

Fox host Bret Baier said Barack Obama’s speech showed why he was “such a star” for Democrats, but that the former first lady “perhaps overshadowed” him.

Michelle Obama “gave a amazing speech that got this crowd on their feet, to say do something in refrain after refrain.

“She had some tough shots against the former president [Donald Trump], but really [it] was a call for action for this Democratic Party to come behind this new ticket, saying America is ready for a new chapter.”

Cohost Martha MacCallum agreed. “Absolutely Bret,” she said, suggesting Obama was linking Kamala Harris’ 2024 campaign with her husband’s own.

“She is an extraordinarily impressive woman,” the station’s chief political analyst Brit Hume said. “I thought she was just terrific.”

Harold Ford Jr., another Fox News host, also said Michelle Obama’s speech was the pick of the night, noting what he thought were great lines, including: “No one has a monopoly on what it means to be an American.”

Baier and MacCallum also singled out Kamala Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, for praise.

Baier said: “It was really, really personable, really engaging. It showed Kamala Harris, the vice president, in a personal light that was funny, and kind of said, you know that laugh, you know that laugh, I love that laugh, taking something obviously, some critics say is a vulnerability of hers, turning it into an asset.”

“Yeah, he did a good job,” MacCallum noted.

It comes against a backdrop of Fox News, a conservative news channel, hoping to expand its audience to Democrat-leaning and independent audiences.

“I think if you build it, they will come,” Fox host Bret Baier told Axios yesterday. “And independents, Democrats are coming to our shows more and more.”
