Fox Sports’ Joe Davis Would Relish One Opportunity Missing From His Impressive Resumé

Joe Davis wears many hats in the broadcasting world.

As a national play-by-play voice, Fox Sports has used him on its MLB, NFL, NCAA football, and NCAA basketball broadcasts. The 36-year-old is entering his second season as the No. 2 announcer on the network’s NFL team, this year teaming up with analyst Greg Olsen and sideline reporter Pam Oliver.

Davis is also in his ninth season as the play-by-play voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers. This year he’ll call 90 regular season games, then transition to Fox Sports’ national MLB booth alongside analyst John Smoltz. The pair called the All-Star Game in July and will be on the call this fall until the final out of the World Series.

Add it all up, Davis has one of the most prestigious slates of assignments of any North American sports broadcaster. But there’s one assignment he would still love the opportunity to call: the Super Bowl.

“It’s not to the point where if you ask me what game I’d want to do, I’d say Game 7 of the World Series but, yeah, I’d love to call a Super Bowl,” Davis told Awful Announcing’s Brandon Contes. “I’m not trying to add stuff necessarily, stuff that I’m not doing, because of the family situation. But of course I’d love to call a Super Bowl one day.”

Davis has three young children at home in Los Angeles, in addition to his broad range of work duties.

“I will follow that very quickly by saying I hope Kevin Burkhardt does a hundred of those,” he said. “Kevin’s good. He’s as good as anybody out there and deserves to do it as long as he wants.”

Burkhardt is the lead play-by-play voice on Fox Sports’ NFL roster. This season he will be joined by analyst Tom Brady in what figures to be one of the most-watched broadcasting debuts in history.

Burkhardt, Brady, Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi open Week 1 with Fox’s primetime game: the Cleveland Browns at the Dallas Cowboys.

Davis, Olsen, and Oliver drew the Pittsburgh Steelers’ game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Fox announced the rest of its Sunday Week 1 broadcasting assignments in August:

• Kenny Albert will handle play-by-play duties alongside analyst Jonathan Vilma and sideline reporter Megan Olivi for the Vikings-Giants game.

• Adam Amin will team with analyst Mark Sanchez and sideline reporter Kristina Pink for Sunday’s Titans-Bears game.

• Chris Myers will team with analyst Mark Schlereth and sideline reporter Jen Hale for Sunday’s Saints-Panthers game.

• Kevin Kugler will team with analyst Daryl “Moose” Johnston and sideline reporter Laura Okmin for the Commanders-Buccaneers game on Sunday.
