Normal activities are also going on in the factories. Apart from this, military and law enforcement personnel were seen patrolling the industrial establishments.

Workers of various garment factories in the industrial area were seen joining their workplaces from Thursday (September 5) morning. Production started after 8 am.

Gazipur Industrial Police SP Sarwar Alam said that the area has been calm since morning. Workers are going to work in groups. Apart from this, District Police, Industrial Police, Metropolitan Police, Army personnel and BGB are working together to prevent any untoward situation and maintain law and order situation.

Earlier, on Wednesday (September 4), workers gathered separately at Tongi Bisik, Bhogra Bypass, Bagher Bazar and Mauna areas to express their displeasure. At that time, when several industrial factories were vandalized, the army and industrial police members brought the situation under control. Garment workers protested by blocking the road in Gazipur from this morning for various demands including equal rights of men and women in employment and recruitment.

According to the Industrial Police, the authorities declared a factory holiday when the workers entered several factories in Ashulia on Wednesday morning and started protesting with various demands. Later, when the workers of those factories went out and started protesting in front of the factories that continued production, the owners were forced to announce a day off yesterday in at least 60 factories. The labor leaders said that those factories are also operational today.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Khandkar Rafiqul Islam said that all garment factories in the country will be open from Thursday. He gave this information at an emergency press conference organized on Wednesday regarding the ongoing labor situation.

Khandkar Rafiqul Islam, president of BGMEA, said that garment factories will be opened in Savar, Ashulia and other areas from Thursday with the cooperation of law enforcement agencies. More than 100 garment factories were closed today. Some places have been attacked. Factories which were closed today will open from tomorrow.

He said that the law and order forces have assured BGMEA to maintain security in garment factories, so all garment factories in the country will be open from today.
