State Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism M. Rashiduzzaman Millat said that the government is monitoring the Iran-Israel situation to ensure sufficient time to reschedule the suspended flights to the Middle East and to reduce inconvenience to passengers.
He said these things while talking to reporters at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday.
He said around 54 international flights were suspended due to the changing situation, which affected various routes in the Middle East. Among these were some flights of Biman Bangladesh Airlines. Flight operations have resumed from today considering the latest situation.
Rashiduzzaman Millat said that the flights that were suspended yesterday have already been rescheduled. We are working in coordination with the Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority, the Secretary of the concerned Ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Welfare.
The state minister hoped that all the passengers of the suspended flights would be able to be sent to their respective destinations by Monday.
He said that Prime Minister Tariq Rahman is personally monitoring the situation all the time, especially the overall welfare of the passengers who could not board the overseas flight.
The state minister also said that Prime Minister Tariq Rahman is directly supervising the matter and giving instructions to ensure iftar and other necessary facilities. We have ensured all the necessary assistance for the passengers.
As the situation is still in flux, Millat urged passengers to check with their respective airlines or travel agencies to confirm updated flight schedules before leaving for the airport.
He said flights are being rescheduled in such a way that passengers from remote areas also get enough time to reach the airport.
The state minister said, we hope the conflict will not increase. If the situation stabilizes, operations will continue as normal. However, in case of deterioration, inter-ministerial meeting will be called and necessary measures will be taken.
