Government will build 4000 flats for low income people

Apart from Dhaka, the government has decided to construct 4 thousand 32 residential flats for low income people in Narayanganj and Khulna. After construction of these flats, rent will be given to low income people. Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali said this while presenting the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 in the National Parliament on Thursday (June 6).

The finance minister said that if the proposal to build 4,32 residential flats for low-income people is approved, apart from Shyampur and Kadmatoli in Dhaka, these flats will be built in Gazipur, Tongi, Chanpara in Narayanganj and Haringhata in Khulna. which will be rented to low income people.

At least 7,500 residential flats have been constructed for government officials and employees in the last 15 years. Besides, in the current financial year (2023-24), the construction of 4 thousand 856 residential flats for government officials and employees is going on.

Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali presented the budget of Tk 797 thousand crore for the fiscal year 2024-25 in the National Parliament on Thursday. This is the 53rd budget of independent Bangladesh and the first budget of the fourth consecutive term of the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The main theme of which is 'Commitment to building a happy, prosperous, developed and smart Bangladesh'. Besides, the GDP growth target has been set at 6.75 percent in this year's budget.

In the proposed budget, the target of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has been fixed at 4 lakh 80 thousand crores. Besides, the budget deficit is Tk 2 lakh 56 thousand crores. On the other hand, the target of foreign debt has been set at 1 lakh 27 thousand 200 crores in the budget. Also, the loan target from the bank is Tk 1 lakh 37 thousand 500 crore and the interest payment cost of the loan is estimated at Tk 1 lakh 13 thousand 500 crore. Besides, the target of sale of savings certificates has been fixed at 15 thousand 400 crores.
