Haji Selim remanded for 5 days


The court has granted a 5-day remand to Haji Mohammad Selim, former Member of Parliament and Awami League leader of Dhaka-7 Constituency in the murder case of Khalid Hasan Saifullah, a first year student of Ideal College.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aktaruzzaman gave this order after the court hearing on Monday (September 2).

Earlier, the investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector of Lalbagh Police Station, Akkas Mia, applied for a 10-day remand of Haji Selim. He was produced in the court at 3.35 pm on Monday. At that time, he was seen standing in the dock of the accused in the courtroom and crying uncontrollably.

A team of detective police arrested him from Banshal area of ​​Old Dhaka at midnight on Sunday (September 1). After the arrest, he was taken to the DB office. Haji Salim was there that night.

According to the complaint of the case, Khalid Hasan Saifullah, a first year student of Ideal College, was shot dead on July 18 in Lalbagh's Azimpur government residential area during the anti-discrimination student movement. In this incident, his father Kamrul Hasan filed a murder case at Lalbagh police station on August 19.

During the quota reform movement, the controversial former member of parliament was attacked by students. A video of the incident went viral on social media. Later he went to the hospital and took shelter.

Earlier, he was sentenced to 13 years in 2008 in an Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) case on charges of acquiring illegal assets. In 2022, the High Court reduced the sentence to 10 years.
