Happy Janmashtami today

Today is the auspicious birthday of Lord Krishna, the worshiper of Sanatana Dharmalambi. The Hindu community of the country will celebrate Janmashtami with religious solemnity and joy. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna was born on the eighth tithi of Shuklapaksha in the month of Bhadra.

The Sanatana religionists believe that when the brute force rose to devour justice, truth and beauty, Lord Krishna appeared in the Mahavatar to subdue that force and establish the welfare and justice of mankind. Their further belief is that this is how God descends through the ages to suppress the evil and establish the true and the beautiful.

Various socio-cultural and religious organizations including Bangladesh Puja Udjan Parishad and ISKCON have taken extensive programs on this occasion. Today is a public holiday on the occasion of Janmashtami. Special programs will be broadcast on private satellite channels including Bangladesh Radio and Television.
