The 2025 NHL Draft is loaded with talent, and much remains uncertain as to where the top players will land.

The New York Islanders hold the first overall pick, and who they take at that spot could define the future of their franchise.

There are several options for New York, including the hometown guy, James Hagens, but Matthew Schaefer seems like the clear-cut best option to take at the top of this draft. He is the best player on the board and is believed to be the type of player who can captain a defense for years to come while also contributing on the offensive end.

Michael Misa, Anton Frondell, Porter Martone, and Caleb Desnoyers are some of the other names to keep an eye on during the first round. San Jose holds the second pick with Chicago, Utah, and Nashville rounding out the top five.
