A Russian railway ferry loaded with fuel tanks has reportedly been sunk in the Russian port of Kavkaz in southern Krasnodar region on Thursday after a Ukrainian attack, Russian and Ukrainian authorities have said.
“The Kyiv regime carried out another terrorist attack on the territory of the Krasnodar region,” regional authorities wrote on social media. “A railway ferry carrying fuel tanks to Port Kavkaz was hit.”
Seventeen crew members were reportedly rescued from the ferry, the governor said on his Telegram channel, and the the rescue operation is ongoing.
Ukrainian Navy spokesman Dmitry Pletenchuk on Friday told Radio Freedom that the ferry—Conro Trader—sank yesterday in the port of Kavkaz after being struck by a Ukrainian missile.
Port Kavkaz is one of the Russia’s largest passenger ports and connects the mainland with the annexed Crimea Peninsula.
