Human chain demanding Metrorail expansion in Savar


Civil society has formed a human chain to demand the expansion of the ongoing projects under the MRT-5, MRT-6 of the government's priority in the communication sector in Savar, Dhaka from Hemayetpur to Nabinagar.

This human chain was held at Amtala area of ​​Savar Upazila Parishad around 11 am on Thursday (April 25). At the time, there was a demand to extend the metro rail from Hemayetpur to Nabinagar or from Diabari to Radio Colony in Savar.

Md. Kamruzaman Khan, Coordinator of Citizens' Committee of Savar and President of Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (CRAB) presided over the manavbandhan program.

He said that an application has been made to Hon'ble Prime Minister Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader for the extension of the metro rail project to the end of the Savar municipal area. A notice has been given to the Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister in this regard. Along with that everything has been informed by letter and directly to Railway Minister, Secretary and Director General. Deprived Savar residents are hoping to get rail services. As part of the government's Smart Bangladesh programme, millions of people in Savar expect the benefits of the metro rail. He said that the program will continue until the demands are implemented.

Many others spoke at this time. The speakers demanded the extension of MRT-5 project from Savar Hemayetpur to Radio Colony in Savar Municipal area to Nabinagar National Memorial.

The speakers said, if the government finds any complications in this project, MRT-6 project can be extended from Uttara Diabari to Savar Radio Colony via Birulia. The speakers also demanded that it be extended up to Nabinagar National Memorial. In the program, if it is not possible to go over the road, it has been demanded to add part of Sava to the existing metro rail project under the ground.

Hundreds of representatives of youth and youth society including people of different ages participated in the human bonding program.
