The police recovered the skeleton of a missing garment worker after digging the soil of the house of a drug dealer named Swapan Mia in Savar Upazila of Dhaka. These were recovered by digging the floor of the house on Tuesday. Seeing the clothes there, his relatives claimed that it was the skeleton of garment worker Tofazzal Hossain Toton, who went missing a year ago.
Earlier on June 6, the police recovered the body of police informant Seema Begum from the side of another house of Swapan in Mineranagar of Birulia Union. After he was killed, the body was buried.
The deceased garment worker Tofazzal Hossain (28) is the son of Salamat Mia of Imandipur Chowrasta. He worked in a local garment factory.
Tofazzal Hossain's uncle businessman Uchman Gani said, βMy nephew Tofazzal Hossain went missing on April 19, 2023. Earlier in the day Tofajjal had a fight with drug dealer Swapan Mia and his associates. The fight broke out over Swapan protesting his drug dealing. A Missing Diary (GD) was filed at Savar police station on April 21 that year after the search failed. After a year, the police recovered Tofazzal's skeleton from Swapan's house on Tuesday.
Talking to the close people of Swapan, it is known that for a long time Swapan Mia was dealing in drugs in Birulia including the municipal area of ββMia Savar. Birulia Union Jubo League President Hamid Mia along with some influential people were patronizing him. Several people including his (Swapan) wife Popi Akhtar and one Saiful Islam helped him sell drugs.
He (Swapan) had five houses in Dhamrai along with Anandpur and Badda in Municipal area and Minera Nagar in Birulia for drug dealing. Two years ago, Swapan bought the house from which the skeleton was recovered in Anandpur for Tk 60 lakh.
Purnima Begum, sister of the deceased Tofazzal Hoseron, said that Swapan used to sell drugs from the second floor house in Anandpur. Even though many rooms were vacant, he would not rent to anyone. Ever since my brother went missing, Swapan left that house and moved to another place. Because of this, we suspected that my brother's body was hidden in that house after he was killed. Even after repeatedly informing the police, no action was taken to recover the body.
In this regard, Dhaka District Superintendent of Police (SP) Asaduzzaman Khan said that the police source, Saiful Islam, an associate of drug dealer Swapan, was arrested first with the help of technology in the case of the murder of Seema Begum. Seema's body was recovered according to his confessional statement given in the court. Five people including Saiful and Swapan were involved in Seema's murder. Later, after the arrest of Swapan, according to the information given by him, the skeleton was recovered from the floor of his house on Tuesday. Seeing the clothes with the skeleton, wife Rani Begum identified the skeleton as that of her husband Tofazzal Hossain. DNA will be tested in this case.
SP Asaduzzaman Khan also said that a foreign revolver was found in Swapan's possession when he was arrested. He is a serial killer and drug dealer.
