In Gazipur, 2 students were burnt in the explosion of 'stored gas'

In Gazipur, 2 people, including a university student, were burnt due to the explosion and fire of the gas accumulated in the room due to the leakage of the gas cylinder.

The accident took place on the ground floor of the 8th floor building of Bismillah Tower in Shimultali Salna Road area of Gazipur Sadar Police Station on Sunday afternoon.

The injured are Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University's master's student of veterinary department. Farhan Hasan and the care taker of that building Khairul Islam. Farhan's village home is Thakurgaon.

Senior Station Officer of Joydevpur Fire Station. Abdus Samad quoting local residents said that the incident took place at 1:30 pm on Sunday on the ground floor of the 8-storey building. The people of the house extinguished the fire before reaching the spot after receiving the information about the fire. Locals rescued those injured in the fire and sent them to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital. Among them, Farhan's condition is worse and he has been sent to Dhaka Sheikh Hasina Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute. Care taker Khairul Islam Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital returned home after initial treatment. He is safe.

Farhan's relative SM Farhadul Abedin said that Farhan went to his village home on Eid vacation. After returning from the village house, I reached my house in Vurulia area first on Saturday. From there, he went to his home on Sunday afternoon. As soon as the switch was pressed to turn on the lamp while putting the bags and goods in the house, there was a loud explosion and fire. At that time, the caretaker went to rescue Farhan and he was also injured.

He said that there was gas leakage from the gas line or stove in that room. I think this accident happened from the sparking of the switch while lighting the lamp.

Resident surgeon of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. Tariqul Islam said that 30 percent of Farhan's body was burnt. His trachea was also burnt. He is admitted in HDU of the hospital.

Abdus Samad, Senior Officer of Joydevpur Fire Station, said that cooking gas cylinders were found in the ground floor room. Farhan went to the house after locking the doors and windows of the room during the Eid holiday. It is believed that because everything was closed, the gas leaked out of the gas cylinder in the house and accumulated in the kitchen.

'On Sunday afternoon, the caretaker was cooking near that room. Sparks from the stove or the gas accumulated in some way sparking from the elevator of the building caused a loud explosion and fire.

Sadar Police Station OC Md. Rafiul Karim Rafi said that apart from the gas cylinder, there is Titas gas line in that room. Now it will be known after the investigation whether the gas accumulated in the room came from the Titas gas stove or from the gas cylinder.
