In Sylhet, the water of 5 rivers is above the flood limit, the lower areas are flooded


The low-lying areas of Sylhet have been submerged due to continuous rains for several days and landslides from upstream. The lower part of Sylhet has been submerged due to the hills coming down from the upstream. The waters of Surma, Kushiara, Dauki, Sari and Sariganga rivers are flowing one meter above the water line at five points.

On Thursday (May 30) morning, Surma river at Kanaighat, Kushiara at Amsid, Sari river at Sarighat, Dauki Jaflong, Sariganga Goainghat were seen flowing almost one meter above the flood line.

According to Water Development Board sources, Jaflong, Bichnakandi, Ratargil, Sadapathar tourist areas of Companyganj in Goainghat upazila have also been submerged in water.

Haor and lower areas of 13 unions of Goainghat upazila of Sylhet have been flooded. Apart from this, the Salutikar-Goainghat road is being submerged in water and traffic is being disrupted. Communication with the upazila headquarters is broken.

In this direction, Shimultala point of Goainghat-Radhanagar-Jafflong road has been flooded. The people of the houses in the Haor area of ​​the upazila are now under water. Apart from this, Rustampur, Lengura, Daubari, Nandirgaon Union, East and West Alirgaon, West Jaflong and Madhya Jaflong of the upazila have been flooded more.

Water Development Board Executive Engineer Deepak Ranjan Das said that the water in the rivers is increasing. At several points, river water has already started flowing over the boundary line.

However, he expressed hope and said that this water will increase a little; Then it will go down.

According to the information of Water Development Board Sylhet, at 6 pm on Wednesday, the water level at Kanighat point of Surma river is 120 cm, Kushiara river water is 120 cm at Amalshid point of Jakiganj, Sari river water is 91 cm at Sarighat point of Jaintapur, Sarigoin river water is 12 cm at Goainghat point and Dauki river water is 41 cm at Jaflong. was flowing through.

Earlier on Wednesday at 12 noon at Kanighat point of Surma river, 85 cm of flood level was flowing, water of Kushiara river was 37 cm at Amalshid point of Jakiganj, water of Sari river was flowing 53 cm at Sarighat point of Jaintapur.

Sylhet Meteorological Office said 146.01 mm of rain was recorded in Sylhet in the last 24 hours (Tuesday 6 pm to Wednesday 6 pm).

Shah Mohammad Sajib Hossain, assistant meteorologist of Sylhet Meteorological Office, said that there is a possibility of rain with temporary gusty winds and light to moderate gales in Sylhet for the next 3 days.
