In the fourth phase, 55 upazilas and Jhenaidah-1 by-elections will be held on June 5


The Election Commission is announcing the schedule for the fourth phase of the Sixth Upazila Parishad elections. On the same day, the Election Commission has also decided to hold by-elections for Jhenaidah-1 seat.

On Tuesday (April 23), EC Secretary Jahangir Alam announced the schedule of the fourth phase of upazila elections at the Election Commission building in Agargaon, capital.

He said, 54 upazila parishads will hold the fourth phase of elections on June 5. Along with this, the voting postponed due to the death of the candidate of Mahadevpur upazila of Naogaon district will also be held at this stage. By doing this, there will be voting in 55 upazilas.

EC Secretary Jahangir said that according to the announced schedule of the upazila of the fourth phase, the deadline for submission of nomination papers to the returning officer is May 9, and selection is on May 12. Last date for withdrawal of candidature is 19 May. Its token allotment and promotion will begin on May 20.

In this phase, out of 55 upazilas, two upazilas will vote on EVMs, while the remaining upazilas will vote on ballot papers.

Voting will be held in 150 upazilas of the first phase on May 8. After that, the election commission has announced the schedule for the second phase on May 21 and the third phase on May 29. In all, at least 485 upazilas will vote in four phases.

Jhenaidah-1 Constituency Member of Parliament Abdul Hai passed away on March 16. That is why the by-election is being held in that seat.

According to the schedule, the deadline for filing nomination papers with the Returning Officer is May 7; Nomination papers will be selected on May 9. Last date for withdrawal of candidature is May 16. Symbols will be allotted on May 17 and voting on June 5.

Voting in this by-election will be on ballot papers. Regional officer of Khulna region will perform the duty of returning officer.
