Indian bus falls into Nepal river, 14 killed – Bangladesh Diplomat

At least 14 people have died after a bus carrying passengers from India fell into a river in Nepal. Rescue operations are underway at the accident site on the banks of Marsyangdi river in Tanahun district. BBC has given this news about the officials of Nepal.

According to reports, there were about 40 people in the bus, which was traveling from Pokhara to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. The cause of the accident and the identity of the injured are yet to be confirmed.

News agency ANI quoted Deepkumar Roy, a senior police officer of Tanahun, as saying that the bus bearing plate number UP FT 7623 plunged into the river and was lying on the river bank. The vehicle is registered in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Deputy Chief Minister of India's western state of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis X (formerly on Twitter) said in a post, 'Some of the dead are residents of the state. We are contacting the Uttar Pradesh government to bring the dead bodies to Maharashtra in coordination with the Nepal government.'

Video from the crash site shows the wreckage of the bus lying down a hillside, next to a flowing river. Rescue workers are seen searching for survivors in the rubble.

A Nepal Army helicopter was sent to the crash site with a medical team.

Pokhara to Kathmandu bus route is very popular among Indian tourists and pilgrims. Accidents are often reported in Nepal due to poor maintenance of roads and vehicles and narrow roads in mountainous areas.

Dozens of people went missing after two passenger buses were swept into the Trishuli river by a landslide in July last year.
