It will take some time for police to fully recover: DMP Commissioner

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md. Mainul Hasan said that 22 out of 50 police stations in the capital were burnt, many policemen were injured and killed in the students' movement. For which the army is still in a lot of fear. So it will take some time for the police to fully come back.

He said this in a press conference at DMP Media Center on Saturday (August 24) morning.

The DMP Commissioner said that some unprofessional and elite members of the police have turned the entire force against the people.

Mohammad Mainul Hasan said, those police officers who have a crisis of confidence will not stay. You will see new faces. However, it is not possible to say how long it will take to restore full confidence. 'No particular district will now dominate at the top of the police force. The main target will be professionalism. There will be no place for injustice, corruption,' added the DMP Commissioner.

Informing the entire force to be organized, he said, those who have behaved unprofessionally will be identified and brought under the law. Besides, those who used weapons including Awami League and Chhatra League during the agitation, will also be brought under the law. I will start working on recovering illegal weapons, but it is challenging.

How did cricketer and former member of parliament Shakib Al Hasan's name come in the recent case? In response to such questions from journalists, Mainul Hasan said that many people have cooperated in the violence in many ways. Some instigated by money, some by speeches. There may be lawsuits on such matters. We will collect evidence during the investigation.

The VIPs have been arrested and remanded. Efforts are on to find out what kind of role they had in the recent agitation,' added the DMP Commissioner.

He said that 14 policemen were killed in DMP during the students' movement. During this time, 427 members of the police were injured. Apart from this, efforts are being made to verify the correct information of the civilian casualties.
