Jabi students are hoping for something good in happiness and depression

The Awami League government closed all educational institutions including Jagannath University for an indefinite period to prevent the anti-discrimination student movement program and student-mass movement demanding quota reform. After the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, the university was announced to reopen in view of the students' demands.

Jagannath University (JUB) has opened from Sunday (August 18) after a long month to start the physical education program. RisingBD spoke to the students in the university premises. Students share their thoughts.

Habibur Rahman, a student of the Department of Sociology of the University, said, after a long time, classes have started again at Jagannath University, the campus of our life. After the summer vacation, everything went back to normal, but then the teachers' strike against the universal pension scheme started. In this, our strong movement against discrimination started again. All things end in many things. Amidst all this, our campus life, classes all come to a standstill. Offline classes have started across the campus from today. From that point of view it is very good. We will get back those beautiful days of the campus of our lives.

He said, now there is more joy, because we are now free. We can go as we wish, we have freedom. We no longer have to be cornered by the fear of student politics. I am very happy from that point of view I have been away from studies for a long time. Classes begin, the stalled studies will pick up a pace. Again, in the midst of my happiness, there is pain hidden. I will never get many of my older brothers and friends back. They will no longer be found in campus chats. No more tea together. Amidst everything, classes are starting again and it's working very well.

Mahamudul Hasan Nayan, a student of the mathematics department of the university, said that the classes started today after a long month. Although we are happy about it, some sadness remains in the corner of our mind. We have regained this freedom at the cost of many sacrifices, at the cost of the lives of many of my brothers and sisters, at the cost of blood. In this death march I lost my classmate, I lost my elder brother and younger brother. This path was not an easy path for us, we lost our relatives every step of the way, we saw our people being killed in front of our eyes. However, when we were freed from the hands of the murderous dictator on August 5, it was as if this sacrifice became a source of pride for us. We can never repay the debt of our brave children. The nation will always remember them with reverence.

He said, we still have to do many reforms in our society and country. We can build our dream country only if we all work together. We will not allow any more dirty politics to be practiced in our Jagannath University campus. Our campus will be the dream campus of students. May our campus once again become one of peace, prosperity and order. I hope that we can be happy again in the classroom because of our friendship.

Murshida, a student of political science department, said, β€œWhen I left my studies, I got an announcement that the classes are going to start from today.” Although he was present in the field during the anti-discrimination student movement, he did not meet any of his close friends in these few days. Everyone was very scared. Finally our victory and in this free country we will meet everyone again in our beloved campus. Everyone will edit their own campus along with reforming the country. Class-examinations were closed in between, with high possibility of session congestion. However, I believe that the authorities will continue to deal with session congestion in the appropriate system.

When asked what he thought about the university, one of the students, Khizir Sifat, said, We are very happy that the classes have opened in the university after a long time. However, as a result of the movement, so many students have given blood, we have not let that blood go in vain, and we will not give it again. I will do whatever it takes to continue reforming our university. It's a pleasure to see everyone. But in the meantime we have lost some older brothers and friends, as happy as we are sad.

Earlier, some classes were held during the strike of teachers from June 26, but after July 1, all class-examinations of the university were stopped when the all-out anti-discrimination student movement gained momentum. Although the university was scheduled to open at different times, after the fall of the latest government, classes have started physically in some departments of Jagannath University from Sunday.
