Jaguars Owner Sets Record Straight About Expectations For Upcoming Season

After dropping five of their last six games to close out the 2023 season, the Jacksonville Jaguars enter the new year looking for some redemption. The Jaguars ended last season with a record of 9-8, missing the playoffs entirely.

It was an extremely disappointing way for them to end the year and it resonated throughout the organization. Owner Shad Khan didn’t hold back on his thoughts regarding last season, calling it an “organizational failure”.

His comments spurred some shock from those around the team, but Khan is serious about winning. He set the record straight about his expectations entering this new year on the club’s latest episode of The Hunt.

“About a month ago we celebrated the city’s partnership with the Jaguars and the approval of funding for the new stadium of the future,” Khan began. “So, I met with the reporters and the discussion obviously quickly turned to football and I was quoted, ‘For us, winning now is the expectation.’ So really I (have) been looking forward to tonight to set the record straight. I was not misquoted. And let me just repeat, winning now is the expectation.”

Jacksonville has the tools to be successful this season, starting with star quarterback Trevor Lawrence. He received a massive contract extension this offseason from the Jaguars and will now need to live up to it.

Lawrence is the key to everything this season, but working together with head coach Doug Pederson is important as well. The two have a good connection but it will be tested with the high expectations coming from the top of the organization.

Pederson echoed a similar sentiment to his boss, saying that everything was in front of this team.

“He’s right,” Pederson said. “He’s right, the opportunity’s right in front of us. It’s about winning. We’re in this business to win and to win now. And that’s our goal each and every day, as we strive. Does it mean we’re gonna be perfect? No, but we’re gonna strive for greatness.”

Being in the tough AFC, Jacksonville will need to start off the year well. They also have a strong division to go against with the Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, and Tennessee Titans all jockeying for position.

This season will be a major test for the Jaguars to see if this mixture of players and coaches can win. If they don’t, some major changes likely will be coming to Jacksonville next season.
