Jets News: Haason Reddick Breaks Silence Amid Contract Holdout Rumors

The New York Jets pulled off one of the biggest offseason acquisitions by landing former Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Haason Reddick. Reddick joins an already top-level defense, and he could help catapult the team back into the playoffs.

Reddick’s arrival has been hyped up plenty, but the issue is the veteran has not yet shown up to participate in team activities with the Jets. Initially, he skipped OTAs, which isn’t a big deal since it is voluntary. However, he also chose not to show up for the mandatory minicamp, meaning he is subject to receiving over $100,000 in fines for being absent.

Many media outlets began to speculate on why Reddick had not shown up, with many believing he could be involved in a contract holdout situation. Reddick himself has now broken his silence about the situation.

Reddick posted on his personal X page, stating, “Stop believing the foolery y’all see on these social media apps and news outlets. Running crazy narratives and y’all eating it up.”

Reddick could be alluding to the multitude of reports that state he is in a contract holdout with the Jets, but this post appears to swing in the opposite direction. The issue is that he has not shown up to any activities, so the public perception is that he is doing so for a new contract.

Reddick’s response also does not indicate the contract holdout is false, but he simply states that people should not be buying into the stories that are currently being released about the situation. He might just be biding his time and is fully planning to show up when training camp starts.

The Jets have not yet announced when training camp will start, but the 2023 season saw training camp start on July 22. It would be believed that the team would start training camp around the same time.

Reddick might just be absent from the team for personal matters and is not willing or beholden to reveal that information to the media. Either way, his absence will be seen as a negative until it is cleared up.

If and when Reddick shows up, he will emerge as a leader on a defense that already contains Pro Bowl cornerback Sauce Gardner and All-Pro defensive tackle Quinnen Williams.

Reddick secured 11 sacks last season and has eclipsed double-digit sacks in each of his last four seasons. There is no denying the Jets’ defense will be far scarier with Reddick on the field, but he will just need to show his face to put fans and the NFL world at ease.
