Justice Manik Detained, Mysterious Status Evaly's Russell

Former judge Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik was arrested by the BGB while crossing the border in Sylhet and fleeing to India.

He was arrested around 11:30 on Friday night. After Manik's arrest, Managing Director (MD) of E-commerce firm Evaly, Mohammad Russell, posted a status on Facebook mocking Manik.

In a status on his verified ID at 1:35 pm, Russell wrote, (Manik) got a lot of money to shut us down forever. Ask his driver. I got a lot of emotional pain for this man. I don't want to say anything. I will tell you the day I will pay all the debts. All I can say is that God should not send someone like him to any country in the world.

However, Russell did not directly mention the name of Justice Manik in his Facebook post but pointed to him. He had shared a picture of Manik's arrest in a separate post shortly before giving this status.

Evaly was founded in 2018 by Mohammed Russell. Despite gaining popularity for selling products with various attractive offers, the company also created a lot of criticism. Especially after talking about various discount offers and failing to deliver the products on time even with advance money, allegations of financial irregularities started to arise against Evaly. After that in September 2021, Mohammad Russell was arrested and jailed in a case of money embezzlement filed by a customer. His wife Shamima Nasreen was also arrested. Evaly was later closed. It is feared that lakhs of customers will be affected. Later, the Awami League government took the initiative to manage Evely by forming a board, where Justice Manik was appointed as the chairman and former additional secretary Mahbub Kabir Milan was appointed as the managing director. The fact that Milon took up the responsibility evoked quite a positive response.

Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury called Manik a 'black animal' and Mohammad Russell wrote, “I embezzled Tk 48,000 crore.” May Allah not send such creatures to earth again. I am very sorry. It was more important than this (in this movement) whether all the students are Razakars. Russel also claimed that more than 12 crore products of Evaly's customers were lost due to Manik.
