Kolkata is the battleground of protests and clashes demanding Mamata's resignation

Thousands of people besieged the State Secretariat (Nabanna) demanding the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. West Bengal Chhatra Samaj, a non-political organization of students, called this program to demand justice for the rape and murder of doctors at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata.

On Tuesday (August 27) morning local time, the student community started the โ€œNabanna Abhiyanโ€ towards the West Bengal State Secretariat. About 6000 police, RAF, EFR and security forces were ready since dawn to prevent the operation. Drones are also used to monitor protesters.

Navanna Hall is the State Secretariat. West Bengal government works from here. It houses the offices of the Chief Minister and other top ministers and officials.

According to the report of the Indian media NDTV, a chaotic situation has arisen on the streets of Kolkata. Hundreds of people started marching towards the Secretariat demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister. Riot police used teargas cells and water cannons to disperse the protesters. The protesters then started pelting bricks and stones at the law and order forces.

Anandabazar said the protesters climbed over the barricade and started shouting slogans. Slogans were also raised from marches and gatherings, โ€œDemand One, Phase One, Mamata's resignationโ€. At this time, some of the protestors were seen holding the national flag, while some were holding black posters.

Protesters also tried to break the police barricade at Howrah Bridge. Police used water cannon to break a part of the barricade. During this time tear gas and baton charge was also done. The protesters dispersed.

Protesters also tried to break the police barricade in Santragachi of Howrah district of West Bengal. Bricks were also thrown at the police. The police retaliated with batons. The protesters dispersed.

Anandabazar reported that Chief Minister Mamata Mukherjee entered Nabanna at 11 am. He was staying there during the protest.

West Bengal opposition BJP leader Subvendu Adhikari has said that he will take a tough stand if the police torture the protesters. He said that he will stand by the students' secretariat siege movement. Block the road if the police use force against the protestors and block them.

He also said that reports of atrocities are already coming from many places. If this continues then the entire West Bengal will be brought to a standstill tomorrow Wednesday.
