Los Angeles Lakers superstar forward LeBron James has done the impossible time and time again. As he enters his 22nd season in the NBA, James has done it all, and he’s done so with many doubters breathing down his neck.

Not too many believed in the hype out of high school until he shattered that halfway through his rookie season. Nobody thought he would be a champion until he achieved that in 2012 as a member of the Miami Heat, and the list continues.

James has defied the odds time and time again, and he has done so again. He was the catalyst for Team USA during the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. James led the way for Team USA, capturing their fifth consecutive gold medal.

The 39-year-old was at the top of his game alongside some of the best basketball players in the world. The talent level on that team was unlike anything we had witnessed as of late. Although the team was filled with standout players, it was clear the three best players on the team and overall were James and fellow future Hall of Famers Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant.

These three were pivotal for Team USA, and their time together will go down in basketball lore—so much so that James changed his profile picture on Instagram to include himself, Curry, and Durant.

James, Curry, and Durant were all vital in the Olympic run, and did their job and then some to bring home the gold.

James led the way, averaging 14.2 points, a team-high-tying 8.2 rebounds, and a team-best 10.2 assists. His 10.2 assists per game are the most by an American in Olympic history, while his total of 51 dimes ranked third in U.S. history behind Leon Wood and Phil Ford.

Curry didn’t start to heat up until the final two games of the Olympic tournament. The 36-year-old combined for 60 points, including 24 points in the gold medal game, as well as hosting four 3-point daggers to put the nail in the coffin for France.

Durant averaged 13.8 points per game, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 22.2 minutes per game. He also became the all-time points leader, passing Lisa Leslie for most points (488) by an American, male or female, at the Olympic Games in the USA’s quarterfinal matchup with Brazil on Aug. 6, 2024.

These three players are arguably the best three of this generation and have carved out Hall of Fame careers. We may never see them on the court on the same team again, and if that’s the case, boy, was it one for the ages.
