Maharaj broke the 64-year-old record in Tests

South Africa won the two-match Test series against the West Indies by 1-0. In this series, Keshav Maharaj took a total of 13 wickets including 8 in the first match and 5 in the second match. Through this, his total wickets in 52 Tests stood at 171. And Maharaj became the highest wicket-taker among spinners in the history of South African Test cricket. He broke the 64-year-old record.

Before that in 1960, Protea spinner Hugh Tayfield took 170 wickets in Tests. Hugh took 37 Test wickets in his 11-year career. Maharaj broke his record after 64 years.

Only eight bowlers have taken more wickets for South Africa in Tests than Maharaj. Among them, Dale Steyn is at the top with 439 wickets in 93 Tests. He is followed by Shaun Pollock (421), Makhaya Ntini (390), Alan Donald (330), Morne Morkel (309), Kagisu Rabada (299), Jacques Kallis (291) and Vernon Philander (224).
