Former President Donald Trump’s estranged niece, Mary Trump, posted a five-word social media message in support of Vice President Kamala Harris’ acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Thursday night.
Mary Trump, who is a vocal critic of her uncle, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, attended the four-day DNC in Chicago, Illinois. She posted a video of Harris’ acceptance speech on X, formerly Twitter, with the caption, “We are witnessing history tonight.”
Mary Trump hasn’t supported her uncle’s recent presidential campaigns, and in 2020 she published a memoir that was critical of him, Too Much and Never Enough.
Harris entered the presidential contest just over a month ago, following President Joe Biden’s unprecedented exit on July 21. Over the past four days, Democratic politicians, celebrities, delegates and others joined together to unite behind Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
However, the party is not entirely unified, as thousands protested outside the United Center in support of halting U.S. aid to Israel and pushing for a ceasefire in Gaza, with some burning flags and clashing with police. Several Democrats criticized the party for not having a Palestinian speaker on the DNC stage.
An hour before Harris’ acceptance speech Thursday night, Mary Trump posted on X, “Kamala has been part of the best administration of my lifetime. Now let’s nominate her for President of the United States of America #KamalaFightsForFreedom.”
Newsweek reached out to Mary Trump for comment via her website email on Friday.
She told USAToday in an interview at the DNC that Harris should “keep doing what you’re doing” in preparation for the first debate against Donald Trump.
“She will not let him get away with lying repeatedly, and remember he tells dangerous lies,” Mary Trump said in the interview.

Harris and Donald Trump are set to debate on September 10 in Philadelphia. The debate will be hosted by ABC News, with David Muir and Linsey Davis moderating. Trump originally agreed to the debate when Biden was still running. He said he also agreed to an earlier debate on September 4 with Fox News, but Harris did not agree to it.
The two candidates are scheduled for a second debate in October, after vice presidential candidates Walz and Ohio Senator JD Vance face off on October 1.
Mary Trump called the first night of the convention “incredible” and posted a photo of the United Center with the caption “We’re not going back!” in reference to a potential second Trump presidency. On Tuesday, she wrote, “I have never been more proud to be a Democrat than this week.”
