Meeting of women leaders with the chief advisor


Chief advisor Professor Dr. Women leaders held a meeting with Muhammad Yunus. In the meeting, they demanded speedy treatment of those injured in the movement and the formation of a judicial reform commission to avoid repeating previous mistakes. At this time, they also put forward several recommendations to prevent violence against women.

The meeting was held on Tuesday (August 20) at the State Guest House, Yamuna. In the meeting, the Chief Adviser assured to consider their demands and recommendations positively.

After the meeting, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan informed the journalists. Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam was present at this time.

Our aim was to listen to everyone and get their views in line with the larger reform plan we have, Rizwana said, noting that emphasis has been placed on creating a priority list.

He said, we cannot finalize everything in an hour's meeting. These will be discussed with other stakeholders. The Interim Government has no negative position on any of the proposals.

Rizwana said there is an initiative by the government to treat the injured. But there are proposals to speed up the process.

At this time, Rizwana also talked about creating a foundation where people can contribute financially. But there was a demand to do something in the interim as some time was needed to build the foundation.

He said, there was a discussion on whether women's rights commission can be formed without dealing with women's problems separately. They proposed to truly empower the Bangladesh Information Commission and the National Human Rights Commission. Regarding violence against women, a female student coordinator said that she was attacked by members of the student wing of the previous government. The student said, I am not here to talk about it. But the whole system needs to be changed, so that those involved in violence against women do not escape punishment.

Syeda Rizwana said that the importance of making the society women friendly was discussed and the issue of Kalpana Chakma, Tanu and Nusrat also came up in the meeting. He said, 'not only women's problems, but the overall situation of the country was discussed.

Regarding reforms, he said, so that the old mistakes are not repeated, there is a proposal to see if these things can be done through the Judicial Reforms Commission. The participants also demanded that the NGOs should not be harassed by the NGO Bureau. There was also a discussion on the recruitment of Shilpakala Academy and issues related to Chittagong Hill Tracts.
