Metrorail will also run on Friday

Metrorail will also run on Fridays on weekends. Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) is making the necessary preparations to keep the metro rail running on this day like other six days of the week.

On Monday (September 2), Managing Director of DMTCL AAN Siddique gave this information.

AAN Siddique, managing director of the company, said on Monday that a number of works including software changes have to be done to keep the Metrorail running on Friday. Our team is preparing for this.

When asked when the new schedule will be launched, he said, it will be informed in the next few days.

Since its inception, the Metrorail has operated six days a week except Fridays. If launched on Friday, the Metrorail will run seven days a week.

During the anti-discrimination student movement program on July 18, when the police box was set on fire at Mirpur-10 roundabout, the authorities stopped the movement of the metro rail at five in the afternoon that day.

The next day, Mirpur-10 and Kazipara stations were vandalized. After being closed for more than a month in this incident, the Metrorail has reopened from August 25. However, even though the metro rail has been launched, Kazipara and Mirpur-10 stations are currently closed due to the need for repair and renovation.

From November 5, 2023, trains will start running on the Agargaon to Motijheel section of the Metrorail. 21.26 km long Udal metro rail line has been constructed from Diabari in Uttara to Kamalapur at a cost of 33 thousand 472 crores. On December 28 of that year, trains were inaugurated on the Diabari-Agargaon section of the 11.73 km long metro rail. In June 2025, this train can be started from Motijheel to Kamalapur on another 1.16 km section.
