Michigan Doctor Accused of Secretly Recording Naked Women and Children

A Michigan doctor accused of secretly recording nude women and children has been charged with multiple crimes on Tuesday after authorities uncovered illicit photos and videos.

According to the Associated Press (AP), Dr. Oumair Aejaz, 40, was arrested at his Rochester Hills home on August 8, following a search that revealed the photos and videos, which had been captured at various locations in the Detroit area.

Aejaz, who specializes in internal medicine, has been charged with one count of child sexually abusive activity, four counts of capturing an image of an unclothed person and five counts of using a computer to commit a crime, the AP reported.

According to Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald, the charges primarily involve footage taken at a children’s swim school in Oakland County, where Aejaz is alleged to have filmed a 2-year-old, a 4-year-old and two women from a neighboring changing stall.

Newsweek reached out to Oakland County Prosecutor’s office via email on Tuesday for comment.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference on Tuesday, McDonald revealed the investigation began after Aejaz’s wife provided authorities with concerning materials on August 13. This led to a further search of the doctor’s residence, where investigators seized six computers, four cell phones and 15 external storage devices, including a hard drive containing 13,000 videos.

“On August 13, the defendant’s wife produced materials that were concerning,” McDonald said. “The Oakland County sheriff’s office immediately executed a search warrant and confiscated more devices and has sifted through really jarring, alarming images, and they’re still doing that.”

According to County Sheriff Michael Bouchard, the case bore a resemblance to that of Larry Nassar, the former USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University doctor who was sentenced in 2018 to decades in prison for sexually abusing girls and women under the guise of medical treatment.

Bouchard expressed his concern over the broad scope of Aejaz’s alleged crimes, which involve victims ranging from toddlers to unconscious women in hospital beds.

“There’s no particular category,” Bouchard said. “It’s not just children. It’s not just women. It’s not just men. It goes from a 2-year-old to a grown woman. The victimization is so broad and the perversion so great, we’re just beginning to wrap our arms around it.”

He added: “It’s hard to look at the videos of that activity where a woman is basically unconscious in a hospital bed, and he’s violating her. To a 2-year-old, thinking they’re out for a great swim day, and they’re being captured naked.”

According to Bouchard, Aejaz, originally from India, came to the United States in 2011 for an internship in Michigan before moving to Alabama in 2018 and later returning to Oakland County. He worked as a contracted physician across several hospitals in southeastern Michigan, rather than having his own practice.

This has led authorities to suspect that there may be more victims, potentially extending beyond Michigan and even the United States with crimes that may stretch back to at least six years.

“It’s disturbing on so many levels,” Bouchard said, noting that the investigation could take months to complete given the volume of material investigators will have to go through. “This may stretch, not just to Michigan, but to other states and potentially even other countries.”

Aejaz is currently being held in the Oakland County Jail with bail set at $2 million.
