Miraj is the chairman of Bhandaria upazila for the second consecutive time


Upazila Awami League general secretary Mirazul Islam has become the upazila chairman for the second time in a row unopposed in Bhandaria upazila of Pirojpur.

Upazila Awami League leader Md. Salahuddin and Jubo League general secretary Ehsam Howlader withdrew their nomination papers and Mirazul Islam was re-elected chairman unopposed.

Mirazul Islam became chairman unopposed with the boat symbol from this upazila. Mirazul Islam is the younger brother of Mohiuddin Maharaj, former Chairman of Zilla Parishad and Member of Parliament of Pirojpur-2 Constituency.

According to Election Commission sources, on the last day of submission of nomination papers on May 2, 4 people submitted their nomination papers including the current chairman Mirazul Islam for the post of upazila chairman. Jatiya Party (Manju) presidium member and former minister Anwar Hossain Manju's cousin Mahibul Islam Mahim, upazila Awami League leader. Salauddin and Upazila Jubo League General Secretary Ehsam Howladar submitted nomination papers.

On May 5, the returning officer and district election officer Mizanur Rahman canceled the nomination papers of former upazila chairman Mahibul Islam Mahim for giving incomplete information in the affidavit on the last day of scrutiny of nomination papers.

Upazila election officer. Moniruzzaman said that the current vice chairman for the position of vice chairman (male) on the last day of submission of nomination papers in Bhandaria upazila. Moshiur Rahman Mridha and current Vice Chairman Upazila Women's Awami League leader Malika Parveen were single candidates for the post of Women Vice Chairman and they were also elected unopposed.

Bhandaria upazila consists of 1 municipality and 6 union parishads. The total number of voters in this upazila is 1 lakh 35 thousand 641 people. Out of which 68 thousand 626 male voters and 67 thousand 15 female voters. The upazila was supposed to vote through EVM on May 29.
