In connection with the death of a student named Afiqul Islam Saad (18) who was shot dead during the anti-discrimination movement in Dhaka's Dhamrai last August 5, a murder case has been filed against 82 Awami League leaders and activists, including former Member of Parliament of Dhaka-20 Constituency (Dhamrai) Benazir Ahmad.
On Wednesday (August 21), the victim's maternal uncle Azim Uddin filed the case at Dhamrai Police Station as the plaintiff.
Deceased Afiqul Islam Saad (18) is the son of Rafiqul Islam of Kayetpara area of ββDhamrai. He was a second year higher secondary student of Savar Cantonment College.

Enamul Haque Ayub (58), Chairman of Baishakanda Union Mizanur Rahman Mizan (57), Former Chairman of Balia Union Ahmed Hossain (68), Former Chairman of Dhamrai Upazila Abdul Latif (60), Former Chairman of Sanora Union Khaled Masud Khan Laltu (55), Md. . Arif Hossain (37), former Commissioner of Dhamrai Municipality Tabarak Hossain Kamal (42), former Commissioner Saheb Ali (62), Md. Shiplu (30), Masum Khan (69), Sakhawat Hossain Saku (65), Himayet Kabir Mateen (58), Shahidullah (58), Abu Sait (62), Aminur Rahman (48), Sirajul Islam (29), of Gangutia Union. Chairman Abdul Quader Molla (50), Amjad Molla (50), Suman Ali (38), Dipu (35) and 82 others, including 80-90 unknown people, have been made accused. All of them are residents of different areas of Dhamrai and leaders and activists of Awami League and allied organizations.
According to the statement, 500-700 students were protesting against discrimination in front of Dhamrai Hardinge High School around 10:30 am on August 5. Saad participated in the movement there. At that time, the leaders and activists of Awami League and allied organizations led by accused number 1-20 chased the students with firearms and indigenous weapons in their hands and started beating and shooting whoever they found. While escaping from there, Saad was shot in the head and fell to the ground. Locals rescued him and admitted him to Savar Enam Medical College Hospital. He died on August 8 after being under treatment for three days.
Dhamrai Police Inspector (OC Investigation) Md. Mominul Islam said that a murder case has been filed following the complaint. Further legal action will be taken after investigation. Efforts are on to arrest the accused.
