NCP demands to bring Hasina back within a month and execute the verdict

Jatiya Nagrik Party (NCP) has demanded speedy implementation of the death sentence of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the International Criminal Tribunal.

NCP convener Nahid Islam made this demand at a press conference organized at the party's central office at Banglamotor in the capital on Monday (November 17) afternoon.

Justice Md Sheikh Hasina was sentenced to death on Monday for committing crimes against humanity in an attempt to suppress the July uprising. The three-member International Criminal Tribunal-1 headed by Golam Mortuza Majumdar.

Apart from Sheikh Hasina, the court also sentenced her government's home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death. He is also fleeing to India like his leader.

Reacting after the verdict was announced on Monday, Nahid Islam said that the criminal convicted for disappearance and genocide is the worst in the history of not only Bangladesh but also the world. Sheikh Hasina has become known as a murderous, bloodthirsty fascist. As a result, through the trial of Sheikh Hasina, not only Bangladesh, but all the dictatorships and fascist rulers in the history of the world, will be an example of the trial.

At this time, the leader, who led the coup from the front, fixed the time to execute the verdict within one month.

Nahid said, 'We demand that we have to implement this verdict of Sheikh Hasina, the verdict of the International Criminal Tribunal in a quick time. Sheikh Hasina should be brought back to Bangladesh within the next month and this verdict should be implemented. We think that we have taken a step forward in the movement, the fight for the trial of all the crimes organized by the fascist Awami League in the last 16 years, including the July genocide.

He also demanded execution of former Home Minister Kamal.

Nahid said, besides, all the Awami League, Chhatra League, Jubo League and all the fascists and their associates and all the government officials who are accused, should be ensured justice in a speedy time. And now that the trial has begun, it must continue. Everyone has to work together so that there are no obstacles here.

Regarding the sentence of the former IGP, he said, 'Even if he is a witness, his sentence of five years is not enough. There should have been a harsher punishment.'

And Sheikh Hasina's highest sentence came from the International Criminal Tribunal, the court that formed her government to try the 1971 war crimes.

Five top leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami and one of BNP were executed during the Awami League period on the basis of the death penalty verdict in this tribunal.

A total of 5 charges of inciting, instigating and ordering the killing of 1,400 people, 'Superior Command Responsibility' and 'Joint Criminal Enterprise' were brought against the accused in the case.
