The Democratic Reform Alliance made its debut with three political parties. The alliance officially debuted in a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity on Sunday (December 7).
The parties in the alliance are the National Citizens Party (NCP), Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party and the Rashtra Sankar Andolan.
It was informed in the press conference that NCP convener Nahid Islam will serve as the spokesperson of this new alliance.
Convenor of NCP Nahid Islam presented the speech at the press conference. AB party president Mujibur Rahman Manju, state reform movement chief leader Hasnat Qayyum, NCP member secretary Akhtar Hossain, chief organizer (northern region) Sarjis Alam and various leaders of the three parties were present at the time.
The parties are calling this alliance, 'the political and electoral unity of those interested in preserving the promise of the July People's Uprising and building a new political settlement'.
Announcing the alliance, Nahid Islam said, “After 24, we have many disappointments in the last one and a half years.” Various forces directly and indirectly in the Consensus Commission opposed and tried to obstruct the reforms in various ways. In this situation, we three parties have united today in favor of reforms. This unity process will continue.
The convener of NCP also said that it is not only an electoral alliance, it is also a political alliance. We will elect together. We are in talks with many other political forces and parties. In the next elections we will vote together, under one brand.
Nahid warned that if anyone thinks that they will win the next election by force, or they will win because of religion, they will not succeed.
AB Party Chairman Mojibur Rahman Bhuiyan Manju said that the three parties have united to provide a new political system. After the coup, our hopes failed. The expectations of the youth have failed. The actions of newcomers have been criticized by many. In this situation today we have come to announce a new journey.
He also said that the three parties have joined hands to give a new political system to Bangladesh as per the promise and expectation of the July coup.
Hasnat Qayyum, President of the Constitutional Reform Movement, said, “We started the journey with three parties, but we do not think that only these three parties hold the desire for a coup or the desire for change.”
He thinks that whether the revolution of 24 will last or not depends on how much the desire for reform is implemented.
