The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) has corrected 147 errors in 31 textbooks of classes VI to IX distributed free of cost in the current academic year.
The amendments were posted on the website of the Department of Secondary and Higher Education (DSE) on Wednesday. It has also been sent to all head teachers and principals.
The amendments are::
700750-mm is printed on page 161 of this year's class VIII science book. Actually it will be 700-750 mm. On the other hand, on page 179 of the Class IX digital technology book, 'artificial' intelligence is being used. In fact it will be using 'artificial' intelligence.
The revised books are: Class IX English, Mathematics, History and Social Science, Life and Livelihood, Art and Culture, Bengali, Science (Research Text), Digital Technology, Health Protection, Buddhism Education and Christianity Education. Class VIII Science (Inquiry Reading), Digital Technology, Life and Livelihood, Mathematics, English, Science (Practice Book), History and Social Science, Islamic Education and Christian Education. Class VII History and Social Science, Health Protection, English and Mathematics. Class VI Mathematics, Science (Inquiry Reading), Buddhism Education, Health Protection and Life and Livelihood.
After the start of classes in the current academic year, debates and criticisms started about various mistakes and inconsistencies in the textbooks. NCTB then issued a press release asking for e-mailing of inaccuracies in the new book. It is said that if any kind of mistakes, errors are observed in the textbook or if there is any suggestion for improving the quality of the textbook, please send it to the following e-mail address or to the address of NCTB Chairman's office, it will be seriously considered and appropriate action will be taken.
An expert is then assigned to each book to correct the errors in the textbook. They identified the mistakes and submitted them to the high level committee of NCTB.
From the report, there are 77 mistakes in 11 books of class IX, 49 mistakes in 10 books of class VIII, 11 mistakes in 5 books of class VII, 10 mistakes in 5 books of class VI.
