New British Deputy High Commissioner James Goldman in Dhaka

Diplomat James Goldman has been appointed Deputy High Commissioner at the British High Commission in Dhaka. At the same time he will also serve as development director in Bangladesh. Goldman replaces Javed Patel in this position. Patel has already been taken back to the headquarters.

The British High Commission said in a message on Tuesday (20 August). Before coming to Dhaka, James Goldman was Consul General in Erbil, the main city of the Kurdistan region in Iraq. Besides, he was the Deputy Head of the British Embassy in Muscat, Oman since 2019. During 2022-23, he served as Charge d'Affaires at that embassy.

Joining the new role, James Goldman said, I am happy to join the British High Commission in Dhaka. I look forward to working with the Interim Government as they work to restore peace and order, ensure accountability and peacefully outline an inclusive, prosperous and democratic future for the people of Bangladesh.

James Goldman has served in various development and foreign policy positions since 2015. Among them, he was the deputy head of the department responsible for the management of the Global Conflict, Stability and Security Fund with funds of more than 100 million pounds. The fund deals with conflict resolution, destabilization, democracy promotion, good governance and prosperity.

In addition, before 2015, James Goldman worked on various security and defense issues. He has played a role in counter-terrorism in South Asia and Africa, combating piracy in the Horn of Africa and preventing the proliferation of chemical, biological, radioactive and nuclear weapons.
