New Year festival is celebrated in Jabi campus


Jagannath University (JUB) celebrated 'Bangla New Year 1431'. The day is celebrated in the university campus with Mars procession and various cultural programs. Instead of April 14 due to Eid holidays, Pahela Baisakh was celebrated in the university campus on Thursday (April 18).

On this day, to welcome the Bengali New Year, the Mars procession led by the Vice-Chancellor Professor Sadeka Halim left the university at around 9:30 am. The procession starts from Shahid Minar premises of the University, goes around Raisaheb Bazar, Victoria Park and back to the campus.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Sadeka Halim was present as the chief guest at the discussion meeting organized at around 10 am after the procession. There, he said, 'Despite not being a residential university, various cultural events are being held in Jagannath University with the cooperation of all, with limited infrastructure and limited scope. Students are the lifeblood of the university, and through this kind of program, our teachers and students are able to showcase their skills.

Mentioning the need for everyone to be aware of sectarianism, terrorism and militancy through the annual program, he said, 'In the family, women should be taught the mentality of thinking as human beings. The new generation should write and say about this through social media.'

In the discussion meeting, the treasurer of the university, Prof. Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir Chowdhury, President and General Secretary of Teachers' Association, President of Officers' Association, President and General Secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League Jagannath University and President of Employees' Association.

Incidentally, this year Bengali New Year has been celebrated in Mangal Shobhayatra at Jagannath University with rickshaw painting recognized as an immeasurable cultural heritage by UNESCO as the main theme and the slogan 'Baishakhe nutan karinu srijan, mangalmoy jati tanu-man'. Along with rickshaw motifs, the procession features crocodile motifs among the endangered species. There are also owls, flowers, bees, leaves, tiger masks and folk crafts of rural Bengal. The Faculty of Fine Arts was responsible for organizing the Mangal Sobhayatra.

Meanwhile, a day-long 'publication exhibition' was held on the ground floor of Bhashashid Rafiq Bhawan of the university. It includes various books published by Jagannath University, journals, periodicals, Jagannath University messages and books published by university teachers.
