Night raid on Nasrul Hamid's 'Priya Prangan' building

Members of the law and order forces conducted an overnight raid on the 'Priya Prangan' building owned by former State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid Bipur in Banani of the capital. They started raiding the building named Priya Prangan from midnight on Tuesday (August 20). At that time, the army, police and RAB members surrounded the building.

They seized several vaults from inside during the night-long operation. At that time, Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud, two coordinators of anti-discrimination student movement and President of People's Rights Council Nurul Haque Noor were present.

At that time, Nurul Haque Noor complained that a large amount of funding remained in this building to suppress the movement of the students. In order to collect information and evidence of this incident, the raid was conducted in the floors of the building. However, he complained about the delay of law and order forces in the news of the operation.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has ordered to freeze the bank account of Nasrul Hamid Bipu and Dhaka Metropolitan Police official Biplab Kumar Sarkar on Tuesday.

It is learned that all transactions through the personal and business accounts of those whose accounts have been frozen will be stopped. For the next 30 days, no transactions can be made as such. If necessary, this period of suspending the transaction will be extended.

According to the BFIU letter, the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Rules will apply to this order to suspend the transaction. Nasrul Hamid, his wife Seema Hamid, son Zaref Hamid, daughter Alifa Hamid and former Joint Commissioner of Police Biplab Kumar Sarkar and his wife and children have been given names and national identity cards.

The BFIU directive further states that if an account is suspended, banks and financial institutions have been asked to send the relevant information or documents of the account such as account opening form, KYC and transaction statement etc. to them within 5 working days from the date of the letter.
